Transformer – The Highs And Lows Of Power

A transformer is a device that converts the high-voltage electricity of power plants to lesser voltages which is used at homes, factories and commercial outfits. The transformer has coils called “windings” that facilitate the transfer of fluctuating electrical current to flow from a primary circuit to secondary by the principle of mutual inductance. The electromagnetic induction, allows the secondary coil which is placed near the primary coil to receive secondary electric current. Transformers may be step-down or step-up types depending on the coils. Various domestic electrical appliances come with in-built transformers For example the geyser or washing machine will require a high-voltage transformer unlike the mp3 player or a cell phone which needs minimum voltage.
